Microphone Check (excerpt), 2005      This is an excerpt from the second hip-hop song I did. I used the hallway with Bruce Nauman's "Performance Corridor" in mind. I was interested in the narrow architectural space as a way of relating to both the anxiety and the focus involved in art-making. The microphone was built large as a sculptural element, part prop and part 'pop'. I was also interested in the visual trickery of perspective in the hallway, and used the video to play with it by moving my body in relation to the microphone.
